Azul - Movement as Spiritual Practice and Healing Art
Amara Pagano
The body is an amazing connector to spirit. Several ancient cultures recognized that there is no difference between body and spirit, that what animates the body is spirit and therefore the body is a divine instrument. Modern science is also showing us how our bodies are so intimately connected to the very source of life. This view of the body is what supports both movement as a spiritual practice and movement as a healing art. Movement in the form of conscious dance, is a powerful reflective surface that allows us to experience a deeper sense of self.

Learn to create, understand and use a body state of awareness, power and compassion.
"How can people bear to cause other people pain? How can people embrace racism, sexism, political and religious violence, and hatred? To change how we feel, it is not enough just to decide to stop destructive feelings. The body must be taught to not hate. And in a sense that is impossible. It is impossible to stop a negative. It must be replaced with a positive. Through specific and concrete body techniques, it is possible to teach people to create, understand and use in their lives a body state of awareness, power and compassion. This is not the whole solution, but it is a necessary foundation. It moves people to feel others as human and to care what happens to them"
In this session we will: Introduce creative movement principles to expand the range of movement possibilities in your Asana practice. Use these approaches to create new transitions and sequences.. more importantly introducing more physical variation to create a resilient body. Secondly we will use the Embodied Yoga Principles approach to explore how to create more psychological depth in your practice. With this approach we inquire beyond shapes and into emotional states using embodied forms. This results in your mat being a more meaningful practice ground for life, where the intention is to learn about ourselves.
